Why is Reel engagement measured separately?
Reels behave differently from other content types: the algorithm often pushes them well beyond the follower base. So lumping general post engagement together with Reel engagement is misleading. Measuring engagement specifically for Reels shows an account's short-video performance and how well its content moves viewers.
How is it calculated?
The tool isolates Reels and removes pinned, sponsored and hidden-like ones. Over the remaining organic Reels it computes two rates:
- View-based rate: engagement ÷ views × 100. Shows how many of the people who actually watched engaged — the most honest measure for Reels.
- Follower-based rate: engagement ÷ followers × 100. The classic engagement-rate logic, relative to the follower base.
Read both together: a high view-based but low follower-based rate means content is spreading beyond followers; the reverse points to a loyal but narrow audience.
About the view data
Views in the calculation come only from Instagram; Facebook crossposting views are not included. So the view-based rate may be slightly higher than it would be against total real views — a natural result of the measurement source.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is Reel engagement rate calculated?
Pinned, sponsored and hidden-like Reels are removed; view-based and follower-based rates are computed over the rest.
View-based vs follower-based?
One divides engagement by views, the other by followers. Reels reach beyond followers, so view-based is more representative.
Is it free?
